Azerbaijan Pedagogical İnstitute ( the present-day Azerbaijan State Pedagogical University ) was established on August 26, 1921 for preparing highly educated teachers staff based on the decree N66 accepted by the government. During a century it has developed much and become one of the most outstanding higher institutions of the country with 8 schools. Its first graduation was in acamedic year 1923-1924. Although it began its activity as Higher Pedagogical Male and Higher Pedagogical Female Institutes in the early periods,  Azerbaijan Pedagogical Institute achieved great development. It was eventually named Azerbaijan State Pedagogical University in the 1990ths. Looking through the history and the way  it passed, we learn that ASPU began its activity in national language with 6 students based on  the decree on  August 26. 1921. This first higher pedagogical institution was established to provide the newly organized schools with the highly- skilled teaching staff. Getting out of all difficulties of the time with honor this institute has preserved its leading role in formation of the spiritual values of the nation and the teachers who play an important part in the development of Azerbaijan culture, science and education system.
